Linda's Art Page

I started weaving in 1990, and I mostly weave functional or wearable pieces, such as scarves, placemats, and a couple of rugs. Right now, I give away what I make (or we use it ourselves), but someday I hope to sell my hand-woven items. Below are some pictures of me weaving and some of my finished products. I also dabble in other media, such as pastel abstracts and collages, and I have included some of that work on this page as well. Let me know what you think by signing our guest book or e-mailing me. If you haven't already done so, check out Mickey's Art Page for more interesting art by my better half. -- Linda

millennium scarf

I call this my Millennium Scarf because it was the project on my loom at the turn of the third millennium. I photographed it on the frozen surface of the Rio Embudo on New Year's Day 2001.

Cordelia's rug on the loom

The first and only large rug I've made (so far) is shown here in progress on my floor loom. I made it as a wedding gift for my friend Cordelia. It was inspired by the blue skies and yellow sunflowers I saw on a trip to Los Ojos, a Northern NM village known for its weavers, Navajo-Churro sheep, and a weaving shop called Tierra Wools. The little church in Los Ojos is where Cordelia was married.

Showing off my blue scarf

Here I am at my loom showing off my almost-finished blue scarf with gray stripes. The yarn is a very soft chenille woven in a twill pattern.

little tapestry

This colorful tapestry is only about 8x10 inches, but it took a long time to weave. I wove it on a neat little lap loom that we bought at an auction in 1994. It is just a sampler to try out different color joining techniques, but I think it looks pretty cool, don't you? (The white lines are tips of chicken feathers - just to see what they would look like).

trusty scarf

This is the first thing I ever wove - my trusty scarf. It is a sampler of many different weaving patterns - tabby, twill, ribbed, and basket weave, plus some I made up myself. It even has a button hole that I made just to practice. It's short and shrunken and over 10 years old, but it is still my lucky scarf and I wear it every winter.

Rug for Cordelia

Cordelia's rug, September 1992.

ottoman rug

This is called the Ottoman Rug, because I wove it for the top of our ottoman. It is woven from four naturally colored yarns spun from our sheep's wool. (see the Sheep page on this site for more information on our sheep and naturally colored wool)

mug rugs & placemat

These are some little "mug rugs" (coasters) made on the lap loom, on top of a placemat I wove using yarn from our sheep wool.
