Montecito Farm
Sheep

We raise a breed of sheep called Navajo Churros.

We have available for sale or trade:

  • Navajo-Churro Sheep. We sell individual sheep or we can help you put together a small or medium-sized starter flock. All of our animals are in good health, and have been raised on our organic farm. Our sheep are not N-CSA registered, but they are registerable and we can tell you how to register them.
  • Wool. Raw fleeces for hand-spinners in a variety of natural colors. Our sheep are sheared by hand yearly.
  • Mill-spun yarn. Currently available in four natural colors (see below). We can have any combination of natural colors custom spun into any weight yarn or roving. Let us know what you are looking for.

Prices and selection vary. Delivery in NM or Southern Colorado might be possible. We will respond to all inquiries and either arrange a time for you to visit Montecito Farm or send you photos to help you with your order. If we don't have what you want, we can either get it or hook you up with someone who has it. All interesting trades considered.

4-horned TGH Ram

Many of our sheep have four horns, a characteristic shared by few other breeds in the world. This is a ram with coloring that is sometimes referred to as "Two Grey Hills" (TGH). Two Grey Hills is the name of a trading post and a style of Navajo weaving that uses the natural colored wool of the churro.

Yarn in four natural colors

We have our wool spun into yarn at the Taos Valley Wool Mill. These are four of the natural colors we can get from our sheep. Contact us if you are interesting in buying yarn.

Cruz

Cruz is a TGH ram lamb born in the Spring of 1999.
